The Iconic Puzzle Game Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — Another Award Type Could Fix That

As any prominent honors show approaches, one notices a demand for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and fill the passions of fans dedicated to specific genres.

Another commentator previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. That would be fantastic. So would strategy board titles, representing someone's personal cause. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case backing this proposal stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create a category for puzzle games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; opinions vary greatly, and it will always spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is an unavoidable compromise for the industry of video games, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these award types actually cover a lot of ground, and you can find room accommodating various experiences.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Think about these recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles of one title, fast-paced pattern recognition from another release, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles of a third title. What category would fit them among existing types? Nowhere, that’s where.

The Representation Problem

Many instances occur outstanding logic titles published annually lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match award groups including Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging Indie races.

  • A renowned logic title got overlooked completely during that awards season
  • A different innovative game missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title received no acknowledgment that year
  • Limited numbers of logic titles barely qualified for niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title rivals popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. You could fill multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

To emphasize again, these are games lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge game development, creating some of most fundamental forms of gaming itself. Just like cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
